GSITS's Three Day
Transportation of Hazardous Wastes
Training Certification Course

Three days (23 instructional hours)

Training certification course including instruction in basic U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations contained in 49 CFR pertaining to the transportation of less than bulk packaged shipments of NON-RADIOACTIVE hazardous wastes and substances.

This will include but is not limited to:

  • instruction in regulatory structure and organization;
  • references and sources of information;
  • a hazardous waste shipping procedure;
  • the Hazardous Material Table;
  • hazardous wastes and substance definitions and determinations;
  • identification;
  • classification;
  • packaging;
  • marking;
  • labeling;
  • shipping papers;
  • placarding requirements;
  • and the provision of Emergency Response information applicable to shipments of hazardous wastes and substances under 49 CFR.

Specific hazardous waste coverage includes :

  • generators responsibilities;
  • the inter-relationship between 40 CFR (EPA Regulations) and 49 CFR (US DOT Regulations);
  • the identification and classification of hazardous wastes;
  • and those aspects of packaging;
  • marking and labeling;
  • and shipping documentation including the uniform hazardous waste manifest as are unique and applicable to the transportation of hazardous wastes.

Also included is the differences in the meaning of terms such as "residue" and "sample" as used in 40 CFR and 49 CFR and their impact on the transportation of these materials.
